Les Tapis Sauvages offers a selection of over 1200 authentic Moroccan Berber rugs. Berber rugs have been a must-have in interior design for several years, and many Berber-inspired imitations are now available on the market. Several criteria are important to consider when recognizing a genuine Moroccan Berber rug. First, the composition is essential. Berber women use only natural materials, such as wool or cotton. If the rug is woven from synthetic fibers, it is unlikely to be authentic. Price is also an important factor; each rug is handwoven on traditional wooden looms by women, the guardians of an ancestral tradition. Weaving a rug, depending on its size and the complexity of the design, can take several months. The guarantee of this expertise, the significant amount of work involved, and the use of high-quality natural materials all explain the high price of a handmade rug. Each rug is unique and created according to the women's desires in terms of patterns and colors; therefore, an authentic Berber rug will only be available as a single piece. Of course, custom orders are possible, but it's impossible to make two perfectly identical Berber rugs. Finally, it's often said that authentic Berber rugs only have fringes on one side. This is true for traditional Berber rugs, where the fringes mark the end of the rug at the end of the weaving process. However, Berber rugs are now made according to demand, and a rug with fringes on both sides can be an authentic Berber rug! How can you recognize an authentic Berber rug? We explain everything here
The world of Berber rugs encompasses a multitude of shapes and colors. Each type of rug is originally linked to a Berber tribe and its specific geographical region in Morocco. Les Tapis Sauvages offers a selection of over 1200 rugs reflecting the diverse creative possibilities of the Berber women who weave them. From traditional Black and White Beni Ouarain Berber rugs with diamond or polka dot patterns, now also found in more contemporary designs and colors: graphic motifs, Majorelle blue, pink, green, and more. We also offer Azilal Berber rugs, which display a multitude of traditional Berber motifs in vibrant, even fluorescent, colors against ecru backgrounds. In addition, we offer colorful Boujaad Berber rugs and a wide range of Kilim rugs, flat-woven rugs with both traditional and contemporary designs. Finally, we also offer a premium selection of M'rirt Berber rugs, high-quality wool rugs whose silky texture and softness make them exceptional handcrafted pieces. You will also find a selection of Boucherouite Berber rugs, perfect for lovers of secondhand and upcycled rugs, as well as exceptional vintage pieces that, in themselves, tell the story of this flourishing and exceptional craft.
