Beni Ouarain Berber rugs - a subtle blend of traditions

Beni Ouarain Berber rugs are woven in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco, originally by a Berber tribe of the same name. Beni Ouarain rugs are very thick and plush, made entirely from the wool of sheep grazing in the pastures surrounding the villages. The base of these rugs is traditionally ecru, adorned with dark brown geometric patterns. The wool's color is natural and untreated, corresponding to the color of the sheep from which it comes. Moroccan Berber rugs reflect the excellence of Moroccan craftsmanship, woven on traditional wooden looms in the mountainous regions of Morocco (High Atlas or Middle Atlas, depending on the rug type), by Berber women in their homes or working in cooperatives in remote mountain villages. All Berber rugs are made from sheep's wool and knotted. It takes between 4 and 8 weeks to make a Berber rug, depending on the size and complexity of the patterns.

Beni Ouarain Berber rugs, a classic and timeless element of interior decoration.

Today, Beni Ouarain rugs are still just as thick, with a pile height ranging from 2.5 to 3 cm depending on the rug, but the pile can vary from short or close-piled to longer. The rugs come in a range of colors from ecru to cream, including ivory and beige. The updated patterns are now more modern: large black and white diamonds, free-form, so-called primitive motifs, solid- color Beni Ouarain rugs, or more contemporary polka dots . The black and white geometric patterns can also be found in contemporary shades : Majorelle blue , pink, terracotta, seafoam green, multicolored, or even fluorescent. The existing palette of Beni Ouarain Berber rugs will surprise you with its diversity of patterns and colors, reflecting the expressions of the Berber women who weave them. Berber rugs Boujaad are woven in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco, originally by a Berber tribe from the town of Boujaad. Boujaad rugs are 100% wool, woven on traditional looms. They are authentic rugs whose patterns and colors are reminiscent of vintage rugs. This authenticity also stems from the fact that Boujaad rugs are rural rugs, more rustic than their  Beni Ouarain cousins.

The colors, which are very diverse, are sometimes faded and prematurely worn to give them a patina reminiscent of antique rugs. However, these are indeed new rugs, recognizable by their designs, a subtle blend of flat, faded colors and traditional Berber symbols and patterns.

Boujaad rugs are like a dictionary of Berber symbols and motifs, easily identifiable from one rug to another. They spring from the imagination of the women who weave them, drawing on an ancestral artisanal and cultural tradition. Today, Boujaad rugs can be considered among the most creative, both for the wide range of colors used and the complexity of the patterns reproduced.
