Azilal Berber rugs are made in the region of the town of the same name in the High Atlas Mountains. Traditionally adorned with numerous monochrome motifs, they are now characterized by a multitude of ultra-colorful patterns , sometimes fluorescent, on an ecru background. Azilal rugs have a less dense weave than Beni Ouarain rugs, for example, and can sometimes be woven with a cotton weft thread, which is notably found in the fringes. They are slightly thinner and more supple than traditional Beni Ouarain rugs . Their design is authentic, blending Berber symbolism, sometimes reinterpreted with contemporary colors, making them a trendy rug while remaining true to traditional Berber art.
